Rediscover the Joy of Boxing With FaceBreaker for the Sony Playstation 3 and Microsoft 360

EA Sports with the help of EA Canda will be bring a new Arcade Boxing game to the Sony Playstation 3, Microsoft 360, and the Nintendo Wii called FaceBreaker.

This will be an all new franchise for EA Sports. EA SPORTS™ is the leading interactive sports software brand in the world, with top-selling titles and franchises including Madden NFL Football, FIFA Soccer, NHL® hockey, NBA LIVE basketball, NCAA® Football, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR® and NASCAR® racing.

According to Petter Moore “FaceBreaker reinvigorates one of the great genres in sports videogames. Arcade boxing takes me back to my roots in this industry, and this game signals our shift to adding more approachable fun to our product lineup. In no time at all, you’ll be picking up the controllers and knocking your opponent around the ring, smashing faces, and having a riot.”

Rather than use real boxers, the developers created fictional characters such as Romeo, "a Latin lover known for his pelvic thrusts," and Molotov, "an oversized Russian demolitions expert with a penchant for fighting dirty." Players will also be able to use the Game Face technology seen in games like Tiger Woods to transfer personal photos and make themselves into characters in the game.

FaceBreaker looks like a cross between Ready to Rumble and Team Fortress.

For more information, log onto www.easports.com/facebreaker on February 1. Media can find a screenshot of the game at info.ea.com.

Insider: PS3 With Larger HDD and DualShock 3 Inbound

There has been rumblings online that Best Buy released a memo indicating that the 80GB PlayStation 3 would be discontinued from the retailer's supply. This means another one bites the dust. When the Sony PlayStation was originally introduced there was a 20GB and 60GB models, both was eventually discontinued in 2007. They were replaced by the 80GB sku with reduced PS2 backwards compatible functionality and finally the 40GB sku that was release just in time for the holidays with a discounted price.

According to arstechnica.com, we can expect a 120GB or maybe 160GB Sony PalyStation 3 with Dual Shock Controllers just in time for the holiday season of 2008.

FYI: you can install any notebook 2.5" sata HDD to your Sony PlayStation 3.

Hydro Engine Reveal for Microsoft 360

There is a little known company called Blade Interactive Studios working on a promising new game called Hydrophobia. Hydrophobia will make last years mega hit Bioshock water effects look a little dated.

Hydrophobia utilises InfiniteWorldsGCS and HydroEngine to deliver unique gaming experience base around heavly around water. Unlike BioShock, Hydrophobia will use water as the main driving force of the game. For example there will be puzzles based around water physics. The water physic will play an extremly important role for you to advance.

The story centers around a young woman name Kate who is Hydrophobic since she was 13 years old. Kate is an engineer by trade and Blade has promise a very multidimensinal character. The story starts about 16 years into the future and Kate has Security detail on a mega ship called the Queen of the World.

The Queen of the World is a a large floating city with the most expensive property on the planet raging from $250 million to several billions. There is no tax and no legislative controls only the uber rich runs the show. Because of the wealth and no legislative controls many business have established themselves on board away from prying eyes.

One such business(que dramatic music) is a company called NanoCell(no relation to NanoGeek)they are in the business of engineering nano robotic. In most countries nano technology is closely regulated, but on the "Queen" you guess it "no one ask questions". On the surface NanoCell is looking to purify water at the molecular level. Their company goal is to make the "deserts of the world bloom"

Taking a que from everday cliches, a terrorist group called Neo-Malthusians whose ideologies are based on the 19th century political economist Thomas Malthus. They beleive in a smaller global population. They would rather have a half a billion people versus 12 billion. They see the Queen of the World and NanoCell as an repugant blight on society that needs to be destroyed by all costs.

Nintendo just released details that the company is being flooded by an excess of cash. Officals at the big N has released thier financail results for the last nine months ended December 31st. Nintendo saw a net sales increase of 84.7 percent on the same period last year.

Their operating income rose by 135.1 percent to 394.0 billion yen($3.69bn) and net income rose by a mind boogling 96.3 percent to 258.9 billion yen ($2.42bn)

'Spore' Coming to Mac in 2008

It is offical Spore will be release on the PC and the Apple Mac at the same time.
Spore is Will Wrights new baby aka "Sims Everything". For the first time in Apple's history the will get a PC game the same date it is shipped for PC. Can we say Mass Effect or BioShock on Apple. Only time and EA will allow this to happen.

I think this is the biggest news for Apple. It shows that Apple is really serious about gaming and for years they have been
negelected.

Rumorang: Duke Nukem on XBLA in 'next several months'

by Christopher Grant Jan 15th 2008 1:28PM

After six long years, the team at 3D Realms finally broke their silence last month, showing off a short – and by many opinions, disappointing – teaser for Duke Nukem Forever. Though we're all well aware DNF isn't close to being released, rumor has it (again and again) that Duke Nukem 3D will resurrect the franchise on Xbox Live Arcade so the title's core audience, who were parking their bricks in a pair of Pull-Ons ten years ago, can learn what The Duke is all about.

Here's the details: sources close to developer 3D Realms told IGN that DN3D is scheduled to appear on Xbox Live Arcade "within the next several months" featuring four-player online co-op and eight-player online deathmatch. If true, this would be the first 3D Realms-developed game to ship since ... well, the original Duke Nukem 3D in 1996. Okay, there was also the strangely offensive Shadow Warrior in 1997, but we'd just as soon like to forget about that ...

Explosion of Indie Games Kills 'Best of' Column

Clive Thompson 01.14.08 4:30 PM

Cyclops is one of the author's many favorite indie games.
Screenshot: Courtesy of Hikoza'n-CHI X

This is getting ridiculous. Two years ago, I wrote my first column celebrating the best indie games: small, offbeat titles, programmed usually by a single auteur and given away for free. I figured I'd make it an annual affair. For 12 months, I'd scour the net for independent games that had a spark -- some innovative bit of design or gameplay -- and gather a list of the top 10.

But I've decided it's impossible. This is not because I can't find any games to praise. It's because I can find too many. Two years ago, the number of people making genuinely polished indie games was pretty small, numbering in the dozens or scores. A single columnist could reasonably hope to sample the year's offerings and make some picks.

But in the last two years, things have blown up spectacularly. There are now hundreds and hundreds of superb indie games coming out every year, from creators in the United States, Japan, India, China and all points on the globe. I'm not counting the crap games, by the way. Throw them into the mix and you're well into the thousands.

No, I'm talking about the good ones. They're now so numerous that I feel like Darwin, scrambling around the Galapagos Islands, frantically trying to catalog the explosively diverse life-forms.

Unlike Darwin, however, I'm giving up. This is the last "year in indie games" column I'm going to write. I'm not even going to pretend to offer a list of "the best," because even though I've played hundreds of games throughout the year, I can't pretend to have played widely enough to determine the best.

I can tell you some of my favorites. For sheer arcade-style action with a twist, I've been enjoying the laser-zapping-with-mirrors fun of Cyclops and the unusual music game Synaesthete. I lost several workdays to solving Bloxorz, a videogame iteration of an old school of logic puzzles (with simply gorgeous sound editing), and Speck Oppression, a physics puzzle game that oscillates my frontal cortex into Zen mode. For sheer narrative artistry -- games that are less addictive thumb candy than tone poems you play once or twice, then meditate upon -- I loved Psychosomnium.

So the question is, why are there so many great indie games now?

I think it's because the videogame industry has hit precisely the same maturation point that movies and music once hit.

Back around 1900, movies began as tiny, indie affairs -- hallucinogenic experiments maybe five minutes long. In a few decades, though, moviemaking became industrialized, turning films into two-hour narratives that cost millions (in today's dollars) to make. The sheer expense of making a movie meant that producers had to stick to genres that were proven to work at the box office: westerns, romance, mysteries. Experimental film died out.

But eventually, genuine auteurs got so sick of seeing the same, dull genres over and over again that they decided to buck the big-money system. The first generation of inexpensive cameras let them make movies on the cheap; with no stakes, they could do weirder, genre-busting films. Thus were born the indie movies of the '60s and '70s -- and that revolution helped rejuvenate all filmmaking, even big-budget stuff.

Movies took seven decades to hit that inflection point. The music business hit it more quickly, with indie pop emerging in maybe five decades after the industry's birth. But games got there in only 25 years.

Just like movies and music, the movement is propelled by a new generation of kids who have easier technological access than ever before: Flash broke the barrier down low, and game-development tools like Game Maker are becoming almost point-and-click easy. Today's indie gamemakers possess the desire to tweak the old genres, and an intuitive sense of the language and mechanics of play.

What's more, there are now formal distribution avenues to encourage indie games -- ranging from the many blogs devoted to them (TIGSource, Indie Games, Jay is Games and many more) to awards events like the Independent Games Festival and Slamdance Games.

Which is where I'm going to leave you. Indie gaming is a field that's come of age, such that you can sample its enormous variety all year long. The best-of column is dead. Long live the best-of column!

Halo Now Playable on PS3: Via UT3

by Patrick Steen on January 14, 2008

In an odd turn of events for non-PS3 games making their way to the console, the Halo map “Wizard” is now playable in Unreal Tournament 3. Should this awaken Microsoft lawyers? We hope not.

The beauty of Unreal Tournament 3 is that the PC community can create maps for PS3 owners to play. It’s such a revolutionary setup for consoles, that you’re really getting a lot of bang for your buck with this insane multiplayer experience.

Now a Halo map has been created from scratch for the game:

This is a remake of the Halo map named Wizard. This was a great close quarters map and I felt it would be right at home with Unreal Tournament 3.

This also has full bot pathing so you can play singleplayer without having to find a server with someone hosting this map.

Enjoy the screenshots below, but most importantly enjoy this new map.

This is why the Nintendo Wii may die an Early Death

The biggest flaw that hangs around the neck of the Nintendo Wii is the fact that a lot of companies are not truly investing the time and true resources to make a quailty game on the Wii. They are many games currently out that where pushed out to capitalize on the unexpected surge the Wii made when it enter the market.

An example of this is:

Far Cry Vengeance

GT Pro Series

Rapala Tournament Fishing!

Ninjabread Man

The History Channel: Battle for the Pacific

Billy the Wizard: Rocket Broomstick Racing Review

Mini Desktop Racing

Offroad Extreme! Special Edition Review

Alvin and the Chipmunks

Dave Mirra BMX Challenge

The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night

Everyone of these games are pure unaldutarated garbbage. Each one of these games has an average score of under 3.
My theory is by making any game for the Nintendo Wii or the DS and you will rack in the dough. The cost to pruduce a game is not as steep as the "other two". Development is very quick , so from concept to consumer is quicker than most games.

Jesse Sutton, Chief Executive Officer of Majesco Entertainment, said, "In 2007 we continued to execute on our strategy. We made substantial operating and financial progress, laying the groundwork for continued growth and improved profitability in the year ahead. We successfully implemented our mass-market casual game strategy, as we published 19 games in 2007 including 13 for the DS and our first two Wii games. We streamlined our operations and reduced expenses.

For the full year, financing and factoring costs were down 35 percent, facilitated by our additional capital. We improved our gross margins by 420 basis points to 33.9 percent, reduced our non-GAAP operating loss for the year by $6.5 million, or 84 percent, and made substantial progress in moving toward profitability. With this improved efficiency and the additional capital from our recent equity financing, we are well- positioned for growth in 2008 and 2009."

We enter 2008 with positive momentum and remain committed to executing on our business plan while maintaining a disciplined financial approach," continued Sutton. "Our relationships with the nation's major retailers are solid and we are on track in expanding our product line.

Further, the launch of our new studio will allow us to gradually and prudently build a library of valuable intellectual property. Our balance sheet is much improved, reflecting our 2007 financing, as well as our efforts to reduce liabilities and lower our overall cost of capital. With our focused strategy and improved financial position, we are well positioned to capitalize on the continued growth of the casual gaming market."

So if you want to be a millionare forget American Idol or even PowerBall. It will be more in the realm of reality if you just mad a crappy Wii game instead.
