Can Sony's HOME attract more female gamers?

Accord to NPD "Girls age two to 14 are spending more time this year on entertainment related activities than they did in 2007, with more than half saying they spend more time using CE devices, and playing PC games and video games, according to Girl Power: Understanding This Important Consumer Segment, the most recent report from leading market research company, The NPD Group."

Women have been the forgotten segment in the gaming world old and new. With the release of the Nintendo Wii female gamers are becoming a more poplular reailty.

Girls Power: Understanding This Important Consumer Segment, most recent reports also highlights a potential coup for Sony to a rather important market segment tweens(girls age 9-12). The report states that "tweens(age 9-12)are migrating to computer and video games, especially virtual world online games."

The reports explains "how girls are social ceatures by nature" with Sony using their Jedi focus to bring a more Social enviroment to console gaming with HOME would girls or women transition over Sony's HOME network? If women or girls do particapate in HOME would the rude, bitter, volguar atmosphere of online gaming push them away to more traditional social networks like Myspace or Facebook.

Can Sony use HOME to get to a segment that no one really cares about or just plain forgotten? Or can Sony get the soccer mom hook on a Sony product before they become a soccer mom while ensuring a profitable Sony future?
