Famitsu publisher Enterbrain released early sales figures for the PS3 lite today, and they are indeed good. For the week of August 31 through September 6, total sales for the PS3 platform as a whole reached 150,832 units. Of these, 150,252 were from the slim, which arrived on Thursday.
In the previous week, the PS3 just barely managed to top the 1,000 mark. The system was hard to find at retail, and even if you did find one, it was probably still carrying the standard 39,800 yen price point, as Sony did not stage pre-slim price cuts in Japan.
The 150,832 figure is a new record for the PS3 in Japan, easily beating the previous high of 88,000, achieved during the first two days after the November 2006 launch. Other surges from games like Metal Gear Solid 4 and the Spring Final Fantasy XIII demo capped out at below 70,000.
