Xbox 360 failure rate above 15%

SquareTrade a firm that looks into product warranties has looked at 1000 of Microsoft Xbox 360 and found that 164 eventually failed due to the infamous RROD.

SquareTrade also looked at the Nintendo Wii and the Sony Playstation 3, and found that their failure rate was at 3%. SquareTrade claims that 60% of the sample consoles from Microsoft broke down due to RROD.

SquareTrade CEO Steve Abernathy noted the reality may be even worse for Microsoft. "It is reasonable to believe these failure rates will increase over time, since the Xbox 360 failure issues tend to increase with prolonged use where overheating appears the main culprit," he said
