Sony Confrims firmware update 2.40 July 2nd

Good news to all fellow Sony PS3 owners Sony Computer Entertainment America has officially announced that PS3 2.40 system software update will arrive just in time for the fourth of July weekend.

July 2nd would be the day all Sony fanboys and girls will rejoice. 2.40 firmware update will include XcrossMediaBar(XMB) access in-game and support for Trophies ranking and reward systems.

Beside the increase in your friend list to 100 Sony has added ability to check the status of your "peps" by just hitting your PS3 button.



Firmware 2.40 feature list:

• Access XMB in game
• Check and received messages in-game
• Switch to any PSN game from any game you are currently playing on the fly
• Check the status of your downloads
• Check your Music, Photos, and Themes in-game
• In-game clock so you can check the time.
• You will be able to finally play your own custom sound track
• Music control feature: Shuffle, volume control, etc
• Google search bar
• Trophies Support(Sony PS3 answer to Achievement points)
  

PlayStation Network title Super Stardust HD will be the first game to offer Trophies. Sony intends to add Trophies support to the following first-party PlayStation 3 games: Buzz! Quiz TV, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm Pacific Rift, NBA 09, Pain, PixelJunk Eden, Resistance 2, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, and Warhawk. Users will be required to download and install game updates for PlayStation Network titles.
