PlayStation 2 Passes 150m Units Sold

World’s most successful console passes milestone in less than 11 years; 1.57 billion games sold.

Worldwide sales of the PlayStation 2 have passed the 150 million mark, according to manufacturer Sony.

The system passes the milestone 10 years and 11 months after its initial release in Japan in March 2000.

A staggering 1.52 billion games have been sold worldwide for the system since launch, and its software library currently boasts 10,828 titles.

Sony says it expects sales of the console to continue, fuelled by ongoing demand in Eastern Europe, South East Asia, the Middle East and South America, saying it will "continue to further expand the PlayStation platform and create a new world of computer entertainment."
