Katherine Marlowe Uncharted 3D Villain?

The Uncharted series for the PS3 has always been an epic non-stop action joy ride. Naughty Dog's third entry Uncharted:Drake's Deception 3-D is turning out to be Sony's PS3 next must have game.

In the new cutscene, Sony PS3 owners are introduced for the very first time to Katherine Marlowe, an aging British woman. According to Naughty Dog, Marlowe is the current head of a 400-year-old cabal associated with none other than Queen Elizabeth and her sea-faring explorer Sir Francis Drake, Nathan's long-dead relative. At the outset of the cutscene, Drake and Sully are thrown out into an alleyway somewhere in urban England, where they're roughed-up by some of Marlowe's goons. It's only after the two men are adequately subdued that Marlowe herself shows up.

We all know Microsoft spent a small kings ransom for the timed exclusive DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops. The DLC, called First Strike, features four new multiplayer maps and an additional zombie mode. Of the maps, Stadium and Kowloon look the most interesting from a visual perspective.

DLC First Strike will launch sometime in February 2011 on Xbox 360 and eventually see the light on PS3 in April.

Toshiba TV uses PS3 chip Cell

Toshiba will soon put on sale in Japan the first television based on the powerful Cell multimedia processor, the same chip that's used in the PlayStation 3 (PS3). The Cell Regza TV boasts several advanced features including the ability to simultaneously record eight high-definition channels.

The TV represents more than the culmination of four years of research and development. No other company has yet talked about putting such powerful processing inside a TV and Toshiba is betting that the functions enabled by the inclusion of the Cell give it an edge in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

The 55-inch TV will go on sale in Japan in early December and will cost around ¥1 million [m] (£7,000). Toshiba expects to sell about 1,000 of the TVs per month when it first launches in Japan. It will first arrive in the US sometime in 2010, with a European release set to happen after that, but no other details on international availability were announced.

The Cell chip was developed by Toshiba, IBM and Sony and each chip contains a single Power PC core and eight co-processors. Together the chips make heavy-duty processing of video a breeze. Compared to one of Toshiba's current TVs the Cell Regza has 143 times the arithmetic processing capacity.

The simultaneous recording function uses two-thirds of the space on an internal 3TB hard-disk drive to provide, when run continuously, the last 26 hours of television on-demand from eight channels. Alternatively it can be switched to record fewer channels at different times to result in a longer overall library of programmes. For example, if set just to record during primetime then up to a week's programming can be stored.

The eight channels corresponds to the number of terrestrial TV stations available in metropolitan areas of Japan.

The remaining terabyte of disk space can be used to record desired programmes and keep them for longer than the simultaneous recording function allows.

Other visual tricks are also capable with the TV, such as the ability to have eight TV channels displayed on the screen at the same time. By keeping each of the TV tuners set to a different channel it's also possible to quickly step up and down through digital channels without the delay that is now common on most digital sets.

The hard-disk, Cell chip and most of the other intelligence and processing systems for the set are included in an external box, which is roughly the size of a a Blu-ray Disc player of a few years ago.

The TV is being unveiled to the public at Ceatec, Japan's biggest electronics show that kicks off on Tuesday near Tokyo. At the exhibition Toshiba is also talking about future directions for the technology including the use of the Cell chip to power a 3D television and a version with a 4k x 2k screen, which has four times as many pixels as current high-def TVs.

PS3: LittleBigPlanet & Resident Evil - with Motion Control

Sony recently announced a full list of games that will support Sony's new motion controls. It seems some current games will be supporting Sony's new tech. At TGS09 Capcom showed off Resident Evil 5 using Sony's new motion control tech, if that was not enough Sony went off and shown LittleBigPlanet being played with Sony's motion control. Check out the video after the jump:

Resident Evil 5: Director's Cut is currently slated for a Spring release. Hopefully Sony and Capcom will release an online update to add the feature to regular copies of the game so we don't have to spring for a whole new disc.

PS3 Slim unboxed Video

The Sony PS3 Slim is officially out for only $299.00. You now get a standard 120GB HDD that is easily replaceable, if 120GB is not enough for you. The biggest feature Sony deleted from the new PS3 Slim was Linux. Sarah Ewen of SCEE’s technology group had this to say:

“The reasons are simple: The PS3 Slim is a major cost reduction involving many changes to hardware components in the PS3 design. In order to offer the OtherOS install, SCE would need to continue to maintain the OtherOS hypervisor drivers for any significant hardware changes – this costs SCE.

One of our key objectives with the new model is to pass on cost savings to the consumer with a lower retail price. Unfortunately in this case the cost of OtherOS install did not fit with the wider objective to offer a lower cost PS3.”

Following the massive Sony GamesCom press conference confirming Sony's new model, GamesRadar US takes their new prize out of the box and into our monitors.
